35 years ago, during the Winter 1990 quarter, we did not have text, email, Zoom, FaceTime, and other forms of electronic communications. You either used a landline, or waited for snail mail.
Above was my residential college's mailroom. Back then, it was such a joy, to receive mail. Some of it included care packages from home. Every now and then, a student would receive his or her CDs from a mail order club. But the East Bay's Babylon A.D. never were included in these clubs.
Thanks to Robocop 2, Babylon A.D.'s "The Kid Goes Wild" did get some airplay and attention. You can think of it as "rock music safe enough for nerd girls," such as my then-future wife.
Nowadays, some of our kids are in college. And merchandise gets delivered to your door. If the porch pirates don't get to your package, you could get Nerdy-brand shoes from Korea. With gentrification in the East Bay, more academics are researching the locale's former music scene and acts. Babylon A.D. frequently come up. The band's obscurity is, however, what makes Babylon A.D feel special, to the individual audiophile.
