40 years ago, when Tina Turner came out with "Better Be Good To Me," you had to be one of my female middle school classmates, in order to feel the impact. Whether you were in PE, electives, or academics, "Better Be Good To Me" infused you with swagger, confidence, and power.
In the 2000s, my old classmate Sandra was back in S.F. With middle school common to our DNA and history of course we reminisced. And when it came to music, she guffawed, "But of course, we've never stopped listening to the music!" While singing to "Better Be Good To Me," Sandra didn't even take off her clothes, as she washed her hair!
Better Be Good To Me" was an early-1980s composition by Mike Chapman, Nicky Chinn, and Holly Knight. When Tina Turner covered it, The Fixx's Cy Curnin and Jamie West-Oran performed. And they made a cameo in the music video.
