In late 1992, my brother bought Dream Theater's Images And Words, which I then brought to UC Santa Cruz.
When we played it in my college apartment, everyone thought it was a refreshing break from the grunge, which the media had been shoving down everyone's throat.
Needing a break before finals, friends such as Kim, Pauline, Quyen, and Tuyet went hot tubbing.
In late 1999, as Y2K was being shoved down our throats, we went back to Santa Cruz's Well Within Spa. And this time around, Dream Theater had a new album, Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From A Memory. We liked "Scene Two: II. Strange Deja Vu." And no, that had nothing to do with Tuyet's surname being Vu :-)
Alas, because of the dotcom boom, real estate in my hometown of San Francisco forced stores, especially audio, to leave, move, or close. And without stores, local audiophiles did not have a means to meet. Ever since then, it's been all online, not in person. Dream Theater's "Scene Two: II. Strange Deja Vu" represents the end of an era.
