35 years ago, the Bay Area was in a drought. But one day after school, it did rain. Some of my friends took Muni Metro across the City, and got off at Embarcadero station, which was then the end of the line. Holy cow, with wet floors, that place was slippery.
Anyway, we heard Anita Baker's adult contemporary "Just Because," which tended to fit the wet but romantic Financial District afternoon. It made me realize that, as a senior, if I were to go to the prom, my date would not be a fellow senior. Rather, she was going to be one of my sophomore or even freshmen friends.
Versus other artists, Anita Baker would only sporadically tour and make new music. Good for her, doing those things on her own choice and accord. Not popular at-large, "Just Because" nevertheless was an R&B staple. That genre of radio stations (especially internet radio) still plays it.
