For one brief, shining moment, with "Toxic Waltz," the East Bay's Exodus ruled the local rock scene. Then my friend and schoolmate, Matthew, said that he was leaving S.F., for New Orleans. His mom was Black, and his dad was Creole. Matthew said that most of his relatives were in Louisiana.
Our friends were bummed, at Matthew's pending departure. One went a few blocks from her home, and just stared blankly across the Bay. Matthew, then a junior, was going to move, well before the end of the school year.
Another fan favorite was Exodus' "Cajun Hell," which had silly lyrics, but nevertheless was a lot of fun, live. However, it did make us lament Matthew moving to New Orleans, and we prayed for his safety.
