In high school, I had a friend/classmate, Keith. Personality-wise, he was typically reserved, cautious, calculating. In sports, he was better and more comfortable, when things were structured and organized. A couple years later, his sister Stacey entered our high school. Personality-wise, Stacey was more outgoing, vivacious, and spirited.
35 years ago, Stacey liked Living Colour's "Cult Of Personality." She didn't care, if her hair was a mess, if her clothes were ill-fitting and tattered, if she had bug bites. She could shake 'em off, and rock out.
We hit the beaches. We talked about, among other things, music. We were uncomfortable, at the racism Living Colour faced. Ignorant people did not know that, with roots in gospel, blues, R&B, rock music came from African Americans.
Stacey recently pulled out "Cult Of Personality," and thrashed around, cutting her hand in the process. Sadly, in today's politics and racism, this song takes on greater importance.
