I hear that San Francisco's the Green Door massage parlor has, after decades of being in business, closed. It was named after the Mitchell Brothers (who did business in S.F.) film, Behind The Green Door.
On account of the AIDS epidemic, in the mid-80s, SF's (gay) bathhouse shuttered. Those which remained then did better business, by catering to women.
When we were in college in the early-90s, my friends started going to hot tub and sauna spas. But as college kids, we could not afford massages.
Since I attended UCSC, my first spa experiences were in Santa Cruz. As mentioned repeatedly in my reviews, I did some of my best audio thinking, while at the spas. I could then bounce ideas off my friend, and you could tell from her reaction, if said idea was rational or not.
Now that everyone is a mom, we like and need spas more than ever. But I'm not sure which, if any, of my friends has been to SF's Green Door.
