Joe Jackson, "Memphis"

No, we don't have any photos from 1983. But during winter break 1983, my family took a trip to SoCal. There, we heard Joe Jackson's "Memphis," which supposedly was from a movie called Mike's Murder. My friends and I did not see that movie.

As for Jackson's "Memphis," he simply took the bassline from his own "Steppin' Out," and added an organ from Spencer Davis Group's "Gimme Some Lovin'."

Back then, there was no internet. So in order to learn about Memphis, Tennessee, we had to go to AAA, to get paper maps. Or, we could go to a library, go to the card catalog, or make a beeline for the Geography section.
