Early in the Fall 1988 semester, some of us saw the Scorpions (Winger opened) at the Cow Palace. The Scorpions stood out from other acts we'd seen, because they played with passion. However, our nerdy female friends did not go to this concert. We guys actually missed those nerd girls, wished they had been there.
Okay, it was like this. None of the "regular" or "normal" girls said yes to my guy friends. So we did not have much choice, but to ask the nerd girls. No one told us then, that those nerd girls would be our future wives.
Bwahaha! In the photo above, we were playing softball at one of San Francisco's asphalt jungle schoolyards. Our boombox had used up the batteries. So Lina was listening to the Scorpions via Walkman. She didn't want to be bothered by Wayman. We scanned this photo as best we could. If you look carefully, the black bookbag next to the boombox had a Scorpions patch.
While we felt that the Scorpions' Savage Amusement was underwhelming, it did kick off with "Don't Stop At The Top," which we liked. It's one of those deep album cuts, which you don't ever hear. When it did play over our boombox, it got us going, as we played sports.
