35 years ago, I was a senior in high school. I was a homeroom rep, so I got to participate in student government. First up on the agenda was the Senior Boat Dance. In a tough decision, our class officers decided to (a) make this a "couples" event, and (b) restrict it to members of our class only. So no one else was allowed.
I was with my freshman friend, LT9. We were listening to a new Ozzy Osbourne song, "Crazy Babies." From the guy who sang "Flying High Again," we thought it was interesting, that "Crazy Babies," in a reflection of the 80s, was about crack babies.
No way in hell was I going to ask any of the girls from my senior class to the Boat Dance. I actually did ask LT9, but before she could say yes or no, my fellow senior, Sandra, half-joked, "If you bring that frosh, we'll throw her overboard!"
Not surprisingly, hardly anyone went on our Senior Boat Dance. Osbourne's "Crazy Babies" is kind of forgotten. Maybe today's populace is too preoccupied with fentanyl.
