35 years ago, I applied to colleges, including UC Santa Cruz. I didn't like standing in line at amusement parks, stores, bus stops, Kaiser, and restaurants. I honestly thought I'd end up at UH-Manoa, didn't give Santa Cruz much thought.

My friend Amanda lived in what she called "Ashbury Heights." In order to get there, we had to take the N-Judah streetcar, get off at Carl & Cole, and walk. Anyway, I was over at Amanda's house, when MTV played Impellitteri's "Stand In Line." Loved it. And Amanda liked that lead singer Graham Bonnet did not grow his hair out, or wear a wig. If you're into rock music, Impellitteri's "Stand In Line" has always been one of those gems you have to dig up.
