During the Fall 1988 semester, several of my friends lived in San Francisco's Chinatown and North Beach. We often played sports at North Beach Playground, so we passed by Washington Square. We looked at each other in disbelief, "Did Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe really get married here?!"
We liked the title track from Robert Cray's Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark. The days were getting shorter, and despite daylight savings time, we didn't have as much sunlight in which to play. Moreover, the lights at North Beach Playground didn't come on. So, we were not afraid of the dark; we were mad at the dark! Nevertheless, 35 years later, we still enjoy Cray's "Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark."
