Most of my friends were born in 1972 and 1973. So even though we may or may not have been born yet, Al Green's Call Me, since it was played by neighbors and parents, was ingrained in us. It's almost as if we, as infants, breathed in "You Ought To Be With Me." So much so, it became part of our conscience.
In the early-90s, the 1970s became popular again. And in 1991-93, I lived in UCSC's Crown-Merrill apartments. During a meeting in the Community Room (above), a boombox played, among other things, Green's "You Ought To Be With Me." It was just...magical.
Sigh, so here we are in 2023, and "You Ought To Be With Me" is, like the rest of us, 50 years-old.
