In college, the person I most easily melded with was Kim. 30 years ago, as she was preparing to go back to UC Santa Cruz for her senior year, among the last songs we heard together was Vai's "Still My Beating Heart." Given that this was 1993, she still flushed a small piece of paper down the toilet.
I would not see Kim again, until the mid-2000s, in Japantown. I was with my wife, while Kim was with her husband, who looked like Giovani Ribisi's character from Lost In Translation. My wife and Kim's husband hit it off. Meanwhile, Kim and I once again melded. She wrinkled her lips, and sighed, "Aw, it figures that you did end up with a Cal girl [my wife went to Cal]."
As for Vai's "Still My Beating Heart," that's actually a favorite of my friend, Scylla. When she's driving, and stopped at a light, that's the kind of song she'll often sing with passion. And as an audiophile, that's all you can ask for.
