Here in San Francisco, September is statistically our hottest month. However, the days are getting shorter, so while you are mentally and spiritually in summer, don't get too used to Indian Summer.
Such was the case, in 1988, when tens of us were at West Sunset Playground. We were playing softball. I don't know exactly which opponent - maybe it was Lawrence - who made this remark about my friends: "I can't even call them 'dogs.' At least dogs have fight."
Meanwhile, via boombox, Book Of Love's "Pretty Boys And Pretty Girls" was playing.
Our first baseman, Cat, had previously looked at our other girls, looked at her own chest, and remarked, "Hmmm, not a lot of boobage." This time, upon hearing the opponent's dig, Cat shrugged, "Hmmm, boy or girl, we don't have anyone who's pretty."
Because of "Boy" and "I Touch Roses," Book Of Love's "Pretty Boys And Pretty Girls" gets overlooked.
