My friend Shelly (right) went to a different high school, and was one year ahead of me. She had two older brothers, who were a lot older than she was. Thus, Shelly liked to joke that she was a "mistake." Nevertheless, because of her brothers, she came across a lot of music, including heavy metal. She would then turn around, and share that music with the rest of us. Maybe that was before a prom, but they were going to the Palace Of Fine Arts. Ever the heavy metal fan, Shelly brought along her leather jacket.
After high school, Shelly started to live more with her brothers, rather than with her parents. She attended City College of San Francisco, and still kept in touch with us. She was one of the first, to get Winger's debut eponymous album. She highlighted that a deep album cut, "Hangin' On," was better than most of the other songs on the album. In that sense, she was acting like an audiophile, digging up the less popular or well-known tracks.
