Sigh, so this is what it's come to. My friend said she found this sort of see-through Metallica shirt at Target.
35 years ago, the 1988-89 school year began. On the first Friday, my parents actually picked me up from school. We ended up at a Wherehouse, which used to be on Geary and Parker. There, I bought Metallica's ...And Justice For All on CD. Since I had my Discman with me, I played the new CD in the car. As we went through the tunnel at Masonic, the leadoff track, "Blackened," made it feel as though we were a rumbling tank!
The second track was the title song. We'd later see Metallica (Queensryche opened) at the Cow Palace, on December 10, 1988. I believe it was during "...And Justice For All," that the Lady Liberty statue prop fell apart.
Back then, the two main stores we bought rock t-shirts from were Broadway's Rock Accessories (Broadway & Montgomery) and Rock Stars (Polk & California). It was kind of cool, to see our nerdy female friends in Metallica t-shirts. Those girls understood that that version of Metallica was sort of the thinking man's rock band.
