In summer 1988, we were in high school, and one of the dads got us to hop in the station wagon. So we went from San Francisco's Sunset, across the Golden Gate Bridge, to parts of Marin County. It was on this trip, that we heard The Moody Blues' "I Know You're Out There Somewhere."
Back then, no one told us that this was sort of a follow-up to The Moody Blue' "In Your Wildest Dreams," which was one of that era's inspirations, for me becoming an audiophile. "I Know You're Out There Somewhere" was about looking for that lost love.
Back then, the few guy friends I had were mediocre students. No one told us that our future girlfriends and wives were right there, the ones who were good students, who'd do well in college, and have way better jobs and careers than us.
To those nerd girls, "I Know You're Out There Somewhere" was a "nice song," but one which we generally would not get to hear. So when we dig it up on the internet, my friends go, "Wow, where'd the 35 years go?"
