At least once a week, someone will ask about, or for more, Freestyle. And since we operate in 5-year intervals, 1988 gets attention. And in 1988, Freestyle was big.
"Where were these when I was in high school?," exclaims my old friend Evelyn, as Denise Lopez's "Sayin' Sorry (Don't Make It Right)" plays in the background.
While there was nothing negative about the brand Fila, in 1988, it just could not inch ahead of Adidas, Converse, L.A. Gear, Nike, Puma, Reebok, or even Jellies. Better late than never, Evelyn got some pink Fila shoes.
Perhaps because it came out in summer 1988, Denise Lopez's "Sayin' Sorry (Don't Make It Right)" missed out on school dances. Arguably, it could have been, like Fila, more popular. Nevertheless, in throwback Freestyle jams, "Sayin' Sorry (Don't Make It Right)" remains a staple.
