Maybe once or twice a week, readers will complain to me about audiophiles' lack of "modern rock" examples. Well, you really had to be in high school and/or college, during the 80s, in order to have experienced modern rock, when it came out.
35 years ago, in August 1988, some of my older neighbors, relatives, and friends returned to UC Berkeley. I'm not aware of anyone actually living on campus. After freshman year, students were not guaranteed on-campus housing. The morning fog helped keep things cool. With that as the backdrop, some "modern rock" songs, such as The Primitives' "Crash," were better-known, than with the public at-large.
The Primitives split in 1992, when I myself was in college. In the 2010s, they re-formed. And apparently, they're still an entity. Nevertheless, "Crash" remains as one of their better-known "hits."
