Here in the Bay Area, you could argue that "our rivers" are the Sacramento and San Joaquin, which flow into the Bay. In the summer of 1993, my ex-girlfriend KJ was a junior at UC Berkeley (above).
KJ liked Billy Joel's "The River Of Dreams," which sort of reminded her that, in this relatively dry area, we have local arroyos and creeks. Had she been with me a UC Santa Cruz, we would have gone to nearby San Lorenzo and Aptos (above) Creeks.
Since Joel's "The River Of Dreams" came out after I had just graduated from UCSC, it represented a bridge to adulthood and the workforce. Hard to believe that that was 30 years ago, and Joel has not come out with any new (popular music) material since then.
