When audiophiles write to me, they don't like when girls rode a skateboard or surfboard. And the 'philes really don't like, when those girls got injured in sports.
35 years ago, Slayer's "Mandatory Suicide" became a fan favorite. For me and my undersized friends playing sports, "Mandatory Suicide" made us set aside fears and the expectation of getting slaughtered in sports.
Alas, San Francisco's asphalt yards chewed our sports equipment, clothing, and bodies. Even when we played on grass, we got chewed up. Jules (above), who played 3rd base, dove for a sharply-hit ground ball. She needed stitches.
During that 1988-89 school year, Jules made the JV softball team. But sigh, before playing in any games, she broke her wrist.
When we went to Slayer concerts in the early-90s, "Mandatory Suicide" was a fave, working better live, than on record.
