Ah, peeled skin. My old friend Renee, who now lives in Sac, recently hit the San Francisco and San Mateo coast. When we were in high school in the late-80s, Renee was one of those who actually lived outside of S.F., but used a relative's address, to get into S.F. schools.
In summer 1988, Renee and other friends would come out to play team sports. From diving after a ground ball, Renee scuffed her forearm. By the time she went home, and showered, the strawberry patch was gone.
When Van Halen's "When It's Love" played via a boombox, Renee and friends loved singing along to the "nah, nah, nah, nah, nah." As an audiophile, that is what you are trying to capture and re-create.
A few months later, before the Fall 1988 semester began, I met my future wife. She liked, among other musical genres, hard rock. She, too, liked Van Halen's "When It's Love." Had our wedding banquet lasted maybe 20 minutes longer, "When It's Love" would have played.
We are currently reviewing Simaudio's 740P preamp and 760A power amp. With this combo and high-quality sources, Van Halen's "When It's Love" isn't about "Hey, our 20th anniversary is coming up." Rather, it's about, as my wife says, being back in summer 1988, not knowing or caring what the upcoming school year would bring. You were just in the moment, living at home, enjoying life, having your parents take care of you.
