Growing up in San Francisco in the 1980s, our families, even if not poor, endured sky-high rent or mortgages. So we always wished we could splurge, and get sundaes from Ghirardelli.
During the summer of 1988, my friends did pass by or through Ghirardelli Square. And that's when we heard Morrissey's "Everyday Is Like Sunday." At the time, we did not know that The Smiths would never reunite.
We'd go to Baskin Robbins, and learn that it wasn't any less expensive. So, we would instead hit San Francisco's Marco Polo, Mitchell's, Polly Ann, and Swensen's.
We'd see the video for Morrissey's "Everyday Is Like Sunday." Check out that era's electronics, including the Sony Sports Walkman.
Back in 1988, my friends were nerd girls. They parlayed their academic excellence into high-paying careers. So now we do splurge on foodie items. And, any day of the week, we still love Morrissey's "Everyday Is Like Sunday."
