Jann Arden, "The Way Things Are Going"

30 years ago, while I was at UC Santa Cruz, a good percentage of the student body came from SoCal. And they were abuzz, from the Los Angeles Kings making a playoff push, and even taking Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals against the Montreal Canadiens.

However, I had a friend and classmate, Ms. Crevier, who was (a) French-Canadian, and (b) from L.A. She was pulling for the Canadiens, and nonchalantly said, "Oh I'm not worried. Our goalie [Patrick Roy] is like, God. Even if the team flails, he'll bail them out."

While we were in town, Ms. Crevier got a cut on her finger. But like not being worried about her Canadiens, she was not worried about her cut.

It was Ms. Crevier, who introduced me to Canadian (born in Calgary) singer-songwriter, Jann Arden. Maybe Arden's laid-back "The Way Things Are Going" fit Ms. Crevier's "I'm not worried" spirit and attitude. At the time, I was thinking, "If audiophiles knew about this, maybe they'd like it."

So when Arden came out with "Insensitive" in the mid-90s, I, thanks to Ms. Crevier, already knew about Arden.
