Not that it matters, but over 20 different audiophiles have reached out to me, stating how much they like A-ha's "I'm In," which appeared in these pages a while ago.
During the Fall 1985 semester, my friend Ming and I were high school freshmen. We had the same P.E. and English classes. After school on a Friday, in early December 1985, I went across San Francisco, with Ming.
No, we don't have any photos from 1985. But Ming had an end-of-day OB/GYN appointment at 450 Sutter. She explained that, late in middle school, her pediatrician no longer took her. Moreover, her orthodontist was also at 450 Sutter.
After her appointment, we went window shopping in Union Square. When we got to Stockton & O'Farrell, it poured! We also overheard and loved A-ha's "The Sun Always Shines On T.V." Sigh, little did we know then, that the abundant rainfall of 85/86 was the exception, not the norm.
This weekend, some of us (and our kids) went out for brunch. We had, among other things, ube (purple yam) pancakes. Over on Inmate Central, I recently wrote about ube pancakes. Anyway, one of the kids was on her phone, and found that A-ha just come out with a new video, for "True North."
Our weather then turned nippy, but that doesn't stop us from getting bubble tea. The mature "True North" now feels appropriate. No, 37 years ago, when A-ha's "Take On Me" and "The Sun Always Shines On T.V." were hits, we did not foresee them (a) still being active in 2022, and (b) sounding like this.
