Hey Allan,In my mispent youty 35 years ago when I was trying to learn classical guitar, Landowska's recording of Bach's Italian Concerto was my introduction to Bach on the harpsichord.
You suggest that the harpsichord simply leaps out of the grooves at you when you haven't even played the disc. Well, I'm hear to tell you, boy, that you ain't heard nothing yet! Just wait till you play it :-)
As Ears says, her harpsichord is not typical. It's a grand piano of a harpsichord with a monumental sound and her playing suits it well. I think you'll actually enjoy the discs and get a lot of pleasure from them but, long term, I would recommend listening to some of the more modern players on more typical instruments - Pinnock, Moroney, Koopman, Hantai, Gilbert are all very fine players as is Leonhardt who maybe is somewhere between Landowsk and the others I've mentioned.
Still, Landowska is a real master even if I've gone off her style, and she really can open your ears to the joys of Bach instrumental works on period (or quasi-period) instruments - hell, she did it for me! I think you've got a lot of fun ahead of you and the W-T Clavier is a wonderful set of works with lots of fine moments in the hands of a competent performer which Landowsksa is. It's also one of those works where the fine moments may well be different with each performer so one can explore different perrformances endlessly.
