Bach to basics

216.26.28.79

Just returned from the Salvation Army and once again I've been saved. Found two sets of shaded dog RCA's that took my breath away. One was Handel's Messiah by (drum roll and cigar please) Sir Thomas Beecham. Yes, Big B. strikes again. The set was almost perfectly preserved except for one LP which has a large (though not very deep) scratch that's circular and crosses the grooves at a shallow angle. I really hate these kind of scratches but it appears to be just on the very surface. Hopefully, the stylus won't try to find a new groove when it sees it:-)

The other set will get Jim excited. Presssed in 1958, dark (almost purple) label with the shaded dog, it's the Well-Tempered Clavier (complete on 6 Lps) done by Wanda Landowska. I don't know her works but the mint condition of these LPs is enough to to give you an orgasm. The harpsichord just leaps out of the grooves at you and I haven't even spun it yet.

So, does anyone know/heard about Wanda?
