That's a pretty harsh review.
It sounds like they really wanted to do a fully staged opera but settled for whatever they could cram into the limited stage space.
IMO, in concert opera works best when you focus more on experimenting with the space -- taking advantage of the fact that you're not limited to having all the singers on stage all the time.
I also haven't heard too much about Dudamel as an opera conductor -- I wonder if this is why he has yet to make his debut at the Met.
