Maybe...

I don't know, but I can guess.

I installed some output compression software yesterday afternoon to try to reduce our bandwidth and increase performance at peak load times during the day. Thus far, the product seems to be working quite well with an overall reduction of 40% in data transfer. If you see funny characters, then you're probably gettting raw gzip output which would mean that your browser lost the header or has a bug or the compression product is buggy.

What browser and version are you running? If it's old, try upgrading it.

Also, I was banging on the server earlier, so I might have caused something by overloading it. Is this still happening? How many people are seeing it? What type of connection are they on? What ISP?

If this is a consistent problem, then I'll need to understand what causes it and find a solution for it.
