Might do just as well looking for a less expensive CDP than a more expensive one. Kind of hard to figure it out without listening to it. Sometimes it might be worth buying used on-line and just trying stuff to find what's going to work best, but it can be a process (buying and reselling) or you might get lucky with your first purchase. Guess it depends on how good a detective you can be. I admit to making purchases based on reading reviews in the past only to discover that even though the sound described in the review was dead on I just didn't like it. Have to admit though those kinds of mistakes helped me avoid them down the road. That said it seems you've already got a decent CDP player. Maybe give your new gear more break in time then try swapping interconnects either between amp and pre and/or on the CDP and maybe you can find a combination that makes an improvement. Maybe it won't make any difference with your gear but it can and does make a difference with just about every system I've ever owned.
I'm a big Long Player fan but find higher resolution digital (higher than CD quality) is going to be the future. You might want to consider a digital player more than just a CDP if you are going to be spending the kind of cash needed to acquire the CDPs on your short list.
Whatever you do good luck and have fun!
