DSD can overload too

I haven't read this paper in a long time but, IIRC, it shows that single bit systems can have occasions when the value needs to be more than one - but it can't be so you have a 'DSD-over'. But, most systems probably get around this by having more than one bit, even in DSD mode.
How much of a problem it is, I can't say. How much of a problem inter-sample overs really is in PCM I can't say. The very worst case over (3dB) happens at a quarter of the sample rate so ~ 11kHz for CD or 24kHz for 24/96 files. Music doesn't contain a lot of energy at those high frequencies so those samples should not approach 0dBFS anyway.
Benchmark have an app note that suggests it is a big problem - YMMV.
