Audiolab 6000CDT vs Cambridge Audio CXC

Last month I ditched my CD PLAYER for a Cambridge Audio CXC CD TRANSPORT and really enjoyed the improvement. I bought the Cambridge on kind of a whim to test if there was value in the CD format. To my surprise there was... and is.

As I learned more about CD Transports I found that, while the Cambridge was well regarded, the more popular choice around the interwebs was the Audiolab 6000 CDT.

I couldn't help myself and when I saw a used 6000 CDT on Audiogon for pretty darn cheap I decided to pick one up to compare and contrast with the Cambridge.

With the Audiolab in house I can say that the reviewers on the web were correct about the enjoyable sound quality of this transport.

A long month ago, when I first plugged in the Cambridge there was an instant and significant improvement over my previous player when it was used as a transport. Now, with the Audiolab there is another obvious step up over the Cambridge. Not as big as that previous step. But certainly a nice step.

My 800 CD collection has been whittled down to 250 keepers and I've actually been buying new (and used) CDs over the past month. There really is value in this new fangled digital format.
