From what little I've read, sizing a tankless system can be a bit tricky if you want sufficient flow rate of hot water. It has to be large enough to sustain a good volume of hot water. I wonder if a tankless system can be combined with a traditional small tank based system combo.
What we really need around here is circulating hot water so its immediately hot coming out of the faucet on those cold winter days. From what I gather they're not very efficient though. On the other hand, having to open the hot water valve for 30 seconds before it is truly hot isn't very efficient either. We have one 50-Gal tank down in the basement at the opposite end of the house from our master bath shower.
