Re: just curious... but

I have had the opportunity to compare the redbook performance of both Ayre players and did not find the CX5e a significant improvement over the CX7e (this was in an all-Ayre system run balanced, as well as an audio research system run balanced). As mentioned above, the redbook performance is the #1 priority for this purchase, and I am looking to make a dramatic step up in redbook performance, not just an incremental one.

Having said this, I think the CX5e is a very capable player but IMHO does not warrant the significant dollar differential from the CX7e. YMMV.
