Re: Cedar Blocks work for isolation?

Sure, they'll work. Every material sounds different. Acrylic sounds different from polypropylene sounds different from acetal sounds different from brass sounds different from aluminum sounds different from stainless steel sounds different from maple sounds different from rosewood sounds different from cedar sounds different from walnut...

Well, you get the idea.

Try and see if you like 'em. If you're a cheap guy, the cheapest thing to get are Jenga blocks. This is a kids' game. You can get 50 blocks for $15 at Target. They don't sound quite as good as the Cardas blocks, but you can't go wrong for the price. (If you're really cheap, you can cut them in half and have 100 blocks for $15.)

Put three blocks under each component (including any external power supplies) between the metal chassis and the shelf so that the stock feet are lifted in the air, EXCEPT speakers. Always use cones under speakers. (The stainless steel cones from Avalon sound the best.) Also use the wood blocks to get all your cables (speaker, power, and interconnect) up off the floor.

You will be shocked at the improvement you get for $15 and 15 minutes of your time.
