What's the rest of your system like?Trying the Valhallas is actually something I believe I can do easily (my dealer mentioned something to that effect recently, when they started carrying Nordost). Thanks for the suggestion, I'll pursue it.
However, that leaves unexplained the fact that the Cary 306 on my system sounded much much better than the Arcam under the exact same conditions. To these ears the Arcam sounds hollow, thin, somewhat harsh with a bit of glare and has a soundstage made of paper cutout instruments; the Cary had a much fuller sound, no harshness or glare whatsoever and the instruments had tangible volume.
