Hmm... the glue thing is interesting! Sort of like cartridge damping block aging... a good reason not to just keep some types of phono cartridges around. I did read a thread that was saying many of the "NOS" laser units are actually rebuilt. I wonder if that was the problem the folks at Theta were seeing with their stocks. I also heard or read somewhere that (specific to the CDM12.4) the Chinese sourced ones were always rebuilt, and were not always very high quality. Supposedly the ones sourced from Japan are actually NOS from the original supplier. Who knows. That fellow on Ebay (Hamdoon Components out of the UK) seems to be a good source for these. I'm not affiliated with him, but I did get two CDM12.4 assemblies from him. Fortunately, I haven't had to use them yet since my Classe CDT-1 has never exhibited any problems.
