Yes and no...

I have tried various tubes but that only changes the character of the noise. The issue that I have with all tubed CD players that I have heard to date is additional noise and the resulting "veiled" sound that rides along with that.
I like tube amps and have used them off and on for many years so it is not a pure prejustice thing for SS by any means. It is just that I don't find tubes suited for use in a CD player when used in a Hi-Fi system. The only exception has been when these players are used in poor or marginally nice systems (say a typical Japanese receiver and Canadian speakers) where they really do transform the sound from flat and thin to deep and rich. In that case, it is a welcome change. You might look at it as just too much of a good thing. You want the sound to be naturally deep and rich, not artificially.
I also actually like the stock tubes in this player for this very reason as they are a little less "tubey" sounding than some vintage types. Some people just can't get enough tubes in their systems but I like to find a proper tonal balance as well as the correct amount of speed and resolution, whether that requires more or less tubes, makes no difference. The same people may say that there is no "proper" or "correct" sound, but it is all just a matter of taste. To that, "I agree to a degree" but then I also have my own taste which is accurate reproduction and when the sound tilts too far to the "warm and fuzzy" side, then you lose the attack and resolution. It is sort of the same as when someone prefers a passive device to an active one. From my listening trials and perspective of what i find to sound realistic, I find the front end to be the best position for passive or neutral SS devices and if tubes are used, then they are best suited for the amplification.
