much easier way

Get a good CD ripper package (EAC - Exact Audio Copy) , rip the CD and burn using a Cd burner , the ripper will sort out any errors (hopefully) and you will have a cheap "poristine" copy.
Some folk maintain that a ripped and burnt CD sounds better than the original , so you might be better off.
Polishing might make you worse off as it will tend to change light transmission characteristics cos of uneven areas due to the polishing, however I HAVE found that polishing can make an unplayable scratched disc play. Most of my unplayable discs have damage on the printed side and no polish will help repair that.
