Thanks for your post Tact ! No case of Emperor's New Clothes here ! - Mildly put the the CD playback of the Ayre unit isn't a patch on my Moon Eclipse which I would have to trade to keep the CX-5e. I was tactfully exploring the waters to see if any one else had experienced this (bearing in mind the audi mags hype) without being too inflammatory!I'm increasingly of the opinion that despite the obvious attractions it just ain't possible to sonically satisfactorily combine DVD-A/DVD-V and SACD/CD in a Universal Player.
I'm similarly unconvinced about the virtues of running in electronics (as opposed to electro-mechanical devices such as speakers) and suspect such a program is more a psychological inducement of tolerance (or boredom) rather than any real improvement
