Thread size of speaker cable binding posts

I somehow have a really hard time finding this information.

Is there a most commonly used thread size for speaker and amplifier binding posts - the outer part that clamps down speaker wires or spades (similar to image)?

I'd like to use a simple copper nut instead of the usual plastic clad brass items.

It seems there are ones that are roughly 6mm in diameter, and some that are around 8.5mm, plus a few proprietary sizes.

My speakers and the amp use a thread that almost is a metric M6, but a tad larger than 6mm; so it's probably an imperial thread size and of unknown (to me) pitch.

Any hints for an ignorant European?
