Recently got in a pair of Chinese Odin 2 speaker cables terminated with clone furutech locking banana plugs. Upon plugging them into the binding posts, noticed that they did not fit snugly or tight. Tried to rotate the collar more to get the plug to expand and lock in to no avail.
Removed the plugs from the wire to figure what the problem was. Answer-poorly made plugs. Also, the wire was barely being held in by the set screws which were not long enough and a dab of silicone glue. Furthermore, the wires in the plug had been soldered together as one big ugly lump of solder. Probably not good for conductivity.
Solution-Aeco banana plugs as replacements. Cut off the soldered ends. Restripped and put on the Aeco plugs which use a collar with a compression screw to connect the wire to the plug firmly.
With new plugs connected, the sound is now much smoother and more detailed. Also eliminated some harshness showing up on certain song with higher pitched vocals.
The Aeco plugs weren't cheap, but made an inexpensive good sounding speaker cable into a much better sounding speaker cable with plugs that fit securely into binding posts and onto the wire.
