DIY double starquad XLR splitters

Made some XLR splitters using dual runs of VH Audio starquad solid core 24awg OCC copper and Aeco rhodium XLR plugs. Was inspired after having excellent results making DC cables using starquad with solid core VH Audio OCC copper. This led to making DIY starquad XLR splitters with 21awg VH Audio solid core OCC copper.

The DIY XLR splitters easily outperformed my TWL custom XLR splitters. Bigger soundstage, more dynamic, deeper and cleaner bass, more detail, blacker background, and reduced HF noise.

The TWL splitters are nice and use very high quality Audience plugs but it also uses stranded copper insulated with PE. Found out after taking them apart.

Recently an audio friend had mentioned how he had doubled up his speaker cables as an experiment and found it improved the sound of his system. More detail and tonal density. That reminded me of Doug Schrodinger and his dual IC method.

I thought why not try it on my DIY XLR splitters to see if it would help. So this time I used dual runs of starquad to each side of the splitter with VH Audio 24awg solid core OCC copper. Used a solid core 18awg wire for ground.

Result-even deeper and more dynamic bass. I can hear deeper into the music, ie differentiate between instruments and voices even more. More microdetails and overall resolution.

Dual starquad FTW! YMMV or perhaps my hearing:)

If you are wondering why I use XLR splitters in my system, it is because I am passively biamping my speakers and my preamp has only one set of XLR outputs.
