I am a big fan of upocc wire.
my stock tannoy speaker actually use upocc wire inside.
16 awg actually is good size. even it is solid core, I recommend you give it a try.
If you look at one of the AA sponsor Sonic craft, they have neotech internal wire, you may check the price there as well
