for the Diamond Toslink

I usually don't review cables too often. I've had this Audioquest Diamond Toslink Cable for a few years now. It is so good I thought I would share what I thought about it, and hopefully help others looking into it. This cable uses 280 narrow fused quartz silica fibers which is supposed to reduce timing errors compared to traditional plastic or glass Toslink cable designs.

Looking up the material found this definiton:

Fused quartz or fused silica is glass consisting of silica in amorphous (non-crystalline) form. It differs from traditional glasses in containing no other ingredients, which are typically added to glass to lower the melt temperature.

So 280 strands of Fused silica for light transmission. Glass. Many strands of it. That's about it for the internals. The connectors are of high quality, but still delicate so I do treat it with care when connecting to my source component.

The sound is exceptional. I use it with a high end modified Wyred 4 Sound Sonos connect in which the digital stages are completely replaced. That then goes into an Auralic Vega DAC which is rated a reference recommended DAC component by many journals.

Front end Preamp is a Wyred 4 Sound STP-SE then going down the chain to a Nord amplifer into Gallo Reference 3.5 loudspeakers. Interconnects used from DAC to Preamp and Preamp to Amp are composed of silver wire XLRs.

Upon plugging them in many years ago I immediately noticed and never forgot the liquid type sound flowing through the system. Very fluid, detailed without being bright or harsh. What would usually sound bright sounded like syrup if you can imagine a sound syrup would make if it were an instrument. Not warm and not synthetic, but very flowing and transients are extremely quick. Bass response became realistic compared to lesser quality cables. No bass bloom or distortion I've noticed. Solid foundation midrange and syrupy pleasant sounding highs.

I recommend this cable it goes for about $600 for a 1.5 meter as of the beginning of 2019.
