That's propbably capacitors wearing out - they do have a life span which varies on the environment they have been in. Open the unit and see if any of the 'goo' has leaked out of the capacitors. Don't confuse it with the glue NADs use to stop the caps from vibrating. The 'goo' would be green/blue and acrid smelling.The other possibility is not enough cooling - that the unit is not properly ventilated and over heating.
