Rectifier Question

So I got around to replacing the 2 rectifiers in my Decware Mini Torii. Bought it used in 2013 and had the same rectifiers in it. Decided to renew the RFT EZ81s with the same. So i did and i hear a cleaner and louder sound. Now this may just be a placebo effect. The old tubes were blackened a bit. So is what I heard expected or jst wishful thinking?
