 Not so many audiophiles appreciate loudness control (but I do). The reason why most DIY people do not include loudness control in the volume control of their tube projects is mostly unclear to me. Anyhow this is the way classical loudness control works. Most compensation happens at the lowest volume setting but no compensation at all is present at full volume. Now let's suppose to use a digital source with its own volume control and suitable output level. By a careful adjustment of both volume controls we can now select the desired SPL and the most appropriate loudness compensation... Omnes feriunt, ultima necat.

If you are in the digital domain just use digital equalization.
