I repaired two of these. It has a TDA1541A DAC chip. SQ is OK. Nothing special. It has a little hump in upper bass. Maybe a good thing for small stand mount speakers. But I also have full range speaker systems.

Here is the stereophile review. "So when Lewis Lipnick called the $400 Rotel 855 "the steal of the century" in Vol.13 No.7, a loud chorus of HUZZAHS! arose from the foxholes; finally, there was a cheap CD player that could hold its own with the big boys. Pow-er To The Pee-pull!

The Rotel was the right player at the right time; basically a standard Philips 16-bit machine with better parts and a beefier power supply, the 855 found a home in thousands of happy systems the world over."

I do miss Corey Greenberg's gonzo equipment reviews. And Muse Kastanovitch too.

A friend of mine has one of those and still uses it. Still works great with no service or repairs over its lifetime.

I don't need that link, just wanted to post with no message just like you did before because many here don't learn that.

If you're going to put something in the subject line and leave no text message then add either /nt or /mt or * at the end of subject line

/no text, /minus text etc

simple, got it? Thx

I like Stereophile's comment "Pow-er To The Pee-pull!"

The RCD-855 was a remarkable CD player for its price ($400 in 1991), and I had one in my system for years.

Even more remarkable, however, is the Rotel CD11 that I got several months ago. It has bested the Cary 303-300 that I loved for years and was heartbroken when it bit the dust. The Cary originally cost about $3500. The cost of the CD11? On sale for $400! But here's the most remarkable part. That would have been $173 in 1991!

CD players have come a long way.
